How to convert a PDF to Word, Excel or images without uploading it

The right converter depends on what you need from the file. Use a text converter for selectable text, OCR for scans, and an image converter when you need page pictures.

Updated 5 October 2026. For office teams, students, developers and anyone working with PDF files.

Choose the converter

  • PDF to Word creates a Word-compatible .doc file from selectable text.
  • PDF to Excel creates a CSV with extracted text positions. It is not a guaranteed reconstruction of a workbook or table.
  • PDF to text creates a plain TXT file and keeps page breaks as separators.
  • PDF to JPG and PDF to PNG render pages as separate images.

Open the PDF converter hub to choose an output format.

Check whether the PDF has selectable text

Open the PDF in a viewer and try to select a sentence. If you can copy the words, a text-based converter can usually read the embedded text layer. If selection only draws a rectangle around the page, the document is probably a scan or image-only PDF.

A scan needs OCR before it can become editable text. OCR can introduce errors, especially with names, numbers, columns and poor-quality images. Check the result against the original.

Review the converted result

OutputUseful forReview carefully
Word-compatible documentEditing and reusing selectable text.Columns, images, forms, links, fonts and page layout.
Excel-compatible CSVFiltering and reorganising extracted text.Column boundaries, totals, merged cells, formulas and page assignments.
Plain textSearching, copying and simple text processing.Line order, spacing and content from scans.
JPG or PNG imagesSharing or using a visual copy of each page.Resolution, page count and image file sizes.

Keep the original PDF. A converted file is a new copy and should not replace the source until you have checked it.

Privacy and file handling

The selected PDF is read by your browser and is not sent to Firm Beacon for processing by these tools. No account or email is required. Normal page requests and anonymous website analytics still occur when you visit the site.

The tools accept one PDF up to 50 MiB and 50 pages. Very large files may use substantial memory in the browser and may be slower on mobile devices.

Questions

Is the Word output a DOCX file?

No. The PDF to Word tool creates a Word-compatible .doc download using RTF content. Open it in Word or a compatible editor, review it and save it in the format your team requires.

Does PDF to Excel create an XLSX workbook?

No. It creates a UTF-8 CSV that Excel can open. Save a reviewed copy as XLSX from Excel if that is the format you need.

Can I process a protected PDF?

Encrypted or damaged PDFs may not be supported. Only remove protection when you are authorised to do so and have a legitimate reason to process the file.

Do I need an account?

No. The browser-local PDF converters work without an account or email address.
