Terms of Service
These terms are the agreement between you and the operator of Firm Beacon for using the service. By creating an account you accept them. We have kept them as short and readable as we can.
1. What Firm Beacon is
Firm Beacon automatically checks publicly available law-firm websites for regulatory information — such as the SRA number, the SRA clickable logo, complaints information and price and service details — and reports what the scanner could and could not find.
2. What Firm Beacon is not
Firm Beacon is not a law firm and does not provide legal advice. A report is a record of what an automated scan found on public pages at one point in time. It is not a compliance certificate, a regulatory decision or a legal opinion, and a “not found” result is not proof that a rule has been broken.
3. Your account
You need an account with a valid email address to use the service. You are responsible for keeping your password confidential and for activity that happens under your account. One person or organisation per account; you may add websites you manage or have a legitimate professional reason to review.
4. Acceptable use
Use the service only for lawful checks of publicly available websites. You must not:
- present an automated finding as a regulatory decision, or use a report to make an allegation the evidence does not support;
- use the service to harass firms or to send unsolicited bulk outreach;
- attempt to probe, overload or disrupt the service or the websites it checks;
- resell or white-label the service without our written agreement (report sharing included in your plan is fine).
5. Free and paid plans
The free plan lets you check a limited number of websites with a limited number of scans. Paid plans add more websites, more scans and automatic monitoring, as described on the pricing page. We may change plan limits and prices; changes to a paid plan take effect from your next billing period, and we will tell you in advance.
6. Payments and renewals
Paid plans are monthly subscriptions processed by Lava.top. Your plan activates when the payment is confirmed and renews automatically each month until you cancel. Prices shown in another currency for convenience are charged in the billing currency stated at checkout; your bank sets the conversion rate.
7. Cancelling and refunds
You can cancel at any time on the billing page. Cancelling stops future charges, and you keep access until the end of the period you have already paid for. Because plan allowances are available immediately, payments already made are generally non-refundable, except where the service was materially unavailable or the law gives you a right to a refund. If something went wrong, contact us — we would rather fix it than argue about it.
8. Accuracy and limitations of results
Automated scanning has limits. Dynamic content, scripts, access controls, robots.txt rules, network failures and unusual page structures can all affect what the scanner sees. You should review every finding, and the linked evidence, before acting on it. We do not guarantee that a scan finds everything present on a website or that every finding is complete.
9. Availability
We aim to keep the service available and scans running on schedule, but we do not promise uninterrupted availability. Maintenance, upstream failures and events outside our control can cause interruptions. If a paid feature is materially unavailable for an extended period, contact us and we will put it right or credit you fairly.
10. Intellectual property
The service, its software and its design belong to the operator. The reports generated for your websites are yours to use, including sharing them through the report links included in your plan. Public data from the Solicitors Regulation Authority is used under the SRA's attribution requirements.
11. Liability
To the extent the law allows: the service is provided “as is”; we are not liable for decisions made on the basis of a report, for indirect or consequential losses, or for events outside our reasonable control; and our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid for the service in the twelve months before the claim arose. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot legally be excluded.
12. Suspension and termination
You can delete your account at any time in Account settings. We may suspend or close accounts that break these terms, abuse the service or create legal risk, and we will tell you why unless the law prevents it. Deleting your account does not by itself cancel an active subscription — cancel it on the billing page first.
13. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the service evolves. For significant changes we will give you notice by email or in the service before they take effect. Continuing to use the service after the notice period means you accept the updated terms.
14. Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and disputes are subject to the courts of England and Wales, without affecting any mandatory consumer rights you have where you live.
