How to edit a PDF without uploading it

For a quick note or hand-drawn mark, you can annotate a PDF in your browser and download a new copy. The source file stays on your device.

Updated 6 October 2026. This workflow adds annotations; it does not rewrite existing PDF text.

Add an annotation in three steps

  1. Open the PDF editor and select one PDF up to 50 MiB and 50 pages.
  2. Choose Text or Freehand, select a page, and click the preview to place the annotation.
  3. Download the edited copy and review it against the original before sharing it.

The selected PDF is read and processed locally in your browser. No account or email is required.

What the editor can do

The tool adds one typed note or one freehand annotation to a selected page. You can move the visible text annotation before downloading. This is useful for a short reminder, a review mark or a simple handwritten note.

What it does not do

The editor does not change existing PDF text, fill AcroForm fields, create a certificate-based signature or remove content. Use the PDF form filler for standard interactive fields and the visual PDF signer for a signature image.

Do not use it for redaction

A visible mark does not remove the original content underneath it. Do not place a white box over confidential information and assume the information is gone. Use a redaction workflow that removes the content, then verify the result.

Review the downloaded copy

Open the result in a PDF viewer and check the page where you placed the annotation. Keep the original until the new copy is approved. Encrypted, damaged or unsupported PDFs may fail.
