How to convert a PDF to Word without uploading it

If a PDF contains selectable text, you can extract that text in your browser and download a Word-compatible document. The source file stays on your device.

Updated 5 October 2026. For students, office teams, developers and anyone working with PDF files.

Use the browser-local converter

  1. Open the PDF to Word converter.
  2. Select one PDF up to 50 MiB and 50 pages.
  3. Choose Convert to Word.
  4. Review the extracted text and download the Word-compatible document.

The conversion runs in the browser. The tool does not upload the PDF or require an account.

What the conversion keeps

The converter reads the PDF's text layer, groups text by its visible position and writes the result into a document that Microsoft Word and similar software can open.

This is useful when you need to edit or copy the words. It is not a promise that the document will look like the PDF. Review headings, spacing, page breaks and special characters before sending the result to someone else.

When the result needs extra work

PDF typeWhat to expectNext step
Text-based PDFSelectable text usually extracts, but layout may change.Review the document and fix formatting where needed.
Scanned PDFPages may contain images and little or no text.Run OCR first, then review the recognised text.
Complex form or designed reportColumns, tables, images, links and form fields may not survive as expected.Keep the original PDF and compare the converted file page by page.

Privacy and file handling

A browser-local workflow is useful when a document contains personal or confidential information. The selected PDF is read by your browser and is not sent to Firm Beacon by this tool. Normal page requests and anonymous website analytics still occur when you visit the site.

Keep the original file. A converted document is a new copy, so check names, numbers, tables and page breaks before relying on it.

Questions

Is the output a real DOCX file?

The tool creates a Word-compatible .doc download using RTF content. Word and many compatible editors can open it. If you need a specific DOCX workflow, open the result in your editor and save it in the format required by your team.

Can it convert more than one PDF at once?

No. Convert one file at a time. Use the PDF merger first if you need to combine PDFs before extracting their text.

Does it preserve images?

No. The tool focuses on selectable text. Keep the original PDF when images or exact design matter.
