How to convert a PDF to Excel without uploading it

If a PDF has selectable text, you can extract it in your browser and download a CSV file that opens in Excel. The source file stays on your device.

Updated 5 October 2026. For office teams, students, developers and anyone working with PDF files.

Use the browser-local converter

  1. Open the PDF to Excel converter.
  2. Select one PDF up to 50 MiB and 50 pages.
  3. Choose Convert to Excel CSV.
  4. Review the generated rows, then download the CSV and open it in Excel.

The conversion runs in the browser. The tool does not upload or save the source PDF and does not require an account.

What the CSV contains

The export includes a page column and the text cells detected from each line of the PDF. It is useful for copying, filtering and reorganising text in a spreadsheet. A CSV is not a native XLSX workbook, but Excel can open it and save a reviewed copy in the format your team needs.

The converter groups text by visible position and makes a best-effort attempt to separate simple visual columns. The output should be treated as a starting point, not as a verified data extraction.

When you need to review the result

PDF typeLikely resultWhat to do
Simple text documentRows are usually easy to read, although spacing may change.Check page numbers, headings and values before using the CSV.
Simple visual tableSome columns may be detected from the spacing between text blocks.Check column boundaries and use spreadsheet cleanup tools if needed.
Complex report or formNested tables, merged cells, formulas, images and exact formatting may not survive.Compare the CSV with the original PDF and correct it manually.
Scanned PDFLittle or no text may be found because the page is an image.Run OCR first or use a PDF with a searchable text layer.

Privacy and file handling

Browser-local processing can be useful when a document contains confidential information. The selected PDF is read by your browser and is not sent to Firm Beacon by this tool. Normal page requests and anonymous website analytics still occur when you visit the site.

Keep the original PDF. Review names, numbers, totals and page assignments before relying on a converted spreadsheet.

Questions

Is the output a real Excel workbook?

No. The download is a UTF-8 CSV file. Excel opens CSV files directly, and you can save the reviewed result as XLSX from Excel.

Can it convert a scanned PDF?

Not reliably. A scan usually contains page images rather than selectable text. OCR must add a searchable text layer before this type of extraction can work.

Does it preserve the original layout?

No. It extracts text into rows and best-effort columns. It does not promise to preserve exact fonts, colors, formulas, merged cells, images or form fields.

Do I need an account?

No. The tool works without an account or email address.
